Excellent computer software on English
translation
The pervasive nature of
computers has affected almost every area of human culture with
business and education being two of the most heavily influenced
fields. We have now reached a stage where there are computer
applications available to assist us with many of life's chores
and activities. From budgeting software, to word processing and
map navigation, no matter what you are looking for - there is
probably a software tool for it that exists somewhere. Even for
some of the more difficult areas for computers to delve into,
such as language translation and facial recognition - we are
now seeing applications being published and readily available
through downloads on the Internet. While language translation
software is still far from perfect, it is of great use for
students who are learning different languages and to assist
with the basic understanding of documents for people conducting
international business.
Machine translation is the process where a computer application
analyses a text in the original or source language and produces
a target text in another language. In theory, machine
translation goes through this process without any human
intervention at all, however in practice, the results are far
from perfect and require human editing at the end. One area
where machine translation excels is with a dictionary based
term-for-term approach, which can be extremely useful for
language students or those with an incomplete but working
knowledge of a language. Many business people with English as a
second language are in this category, and the right software
can help to augment what has become the almost necessary
process of learning English.
There are many translation software packages on the market,
either in the form of language translation dictionaries of
entire phrase translation applications. Many of these programs
are available for purchase as CD's, while others are freely
available on the Internet. Due to the popular nature of the
language, English translation (Englisch
Übersetzungen) software is
very popular, although many languages have translation
equivalents. Babel Fish from Yahoo, Babylon, and StarDict
are three of the most popular translation applications,
providing what has become known as 'gisting translation', or
rough phrase based translation which give the 'gist' of a
source text. While the end results of such software can at
times be amusing, they are excellent tools for language
students and anyone who does any business abroad.
English has become the de-facto language of global business
relations, and the mastering of it is almost a necessity for
business people worldwide. For the millions of people who use
English as a second language, translation programs can be used
to complete knowledge they do not have or provide translations
of technical and little known terms. For translation German
English (Übersetzung Deutsch
Englisch) or the translation
of Spanish into English, freely available tools on the
Internet may be all that is needed to get by. For
professional and trustworthy results, however, many
international businesses use the services of professional
translation companies. For many others, including language
pupils from all over the world, the excellent translation
software that is available today is a god send that would
have seemed like a miracle only a couple of decades
ago.
